Yesterday’s Mackie Memorial Cup race went incredibly! Thank you to everyone who made it and joined in on the fun.
Jon Makin (from the 0901 group) led from the gun, and his long lone 65 km breakaway was only hauled in by a group of riders from the 0910 group on Union Road in the last part of the final lap. A group of 8 contested the final sprint to the line, with Tim Spicer (runner-up from the Bruce Kent Handicap three weeks ago) taking it out from Richard Hayward and Damon Clark – just three bike lengths separated the first three riders on the line. Fastest time overall was Zane Wyllie from the 0925 scratch group.
