Auckland and CMC Road Championships Summary

Yesterday, we kept the fun times going and held the Auckland & CMC Road Champs!

Start time for the road races was set for 9.30 to avoid the delays which had hindered the time trial the day before. Riders rode between 1 and 6 laps depending on the age group and everyone completed the racing without any mishaps, except the odd mechanical. Racing was tight within the various start groups but not always within the age groups.

Several riders took home their 2nd title of the weekend:

Dan Morton (MU23)

Ava Maddison (WSenior)

Liz Nelson (WM2)

Penny Pawson (WM5)

Laura Allan (U15F)

Rob Scarlett (MM3)

Toby Lennarts (U15M)

Dan Morton & Ava Madison took home the Martin Thompson Memorial trophies for first in each of the combined u23 and seniors races.

There was a bit of family affair for some riders with Colin and Denise Claxton taking out the MM9 and WM9 titles, Tim & Penny Pawson MM5 and WM5, and brother sister duo Ben Archer (U19M) and Sophie Archer (U17W).

The fastest times were 6 laps Dan Morton, 5 laps Rob Scarlett and Craig Mathews, 3 laps Jim McMurray, 2 laps Denise Claxton and 1 lap Toby Lennarts. Jim also took home the award for coming the furtherest having driven up from Tokoroa.

We again had riders from Hamilton, Te Awamutu Dynamo and FMWC clubs

Our photographer Ethan Verner not only took wonderful photos but also captured and returned a friendly local dog, wandering on the road, to its grateful owner and ensured it didn’t mess with riders. For more photos from the event, click here.
